bate-volta

Description

bate-volta (a Brazilian expressions that denotes a quick round trip over a day or weekend) was a pocket exhibition held at the independent space Totó, in Barra Funda, São Paulo, featuring the trio of visual artists and friends Heloísa Franco, Isabelle Passos and Luiza Zaroni. Both the exhibition and the accompanying text, inspired by the works and the narratives behind their creation, were conceived as daydreams about loves past, present, and future. Chosen by the artists, the title "bate-volta" evokes the image of a couple’s short vacation trip, where partners find themselves alone together for long stretches of time, opportunities for mutual understanding deeper than everyday life ordinarily allows.

bate-volta

a slap, a kiss.

my boot in the mud,

a chuva na cara.

the love that carries you away; steely violet, the scene is fresh and I'm forced to admit: the air really is crisper up here.

the love that draws you home; the eye that runs across the skin charts fjords and oases, lingering tongue of light, meticulous topographer.

the love that’s past; fresh coats of memory covering bygone figures — life moves on, paint dries up.
